Ice Spice happens to be the cooler older sister of a high school quarterback who’s gaining traction as one of the best players in his position in the state of New York.
The rapper, whose real name is Isis Gaston, has shot to fame in recent years and is now rubbing shoulders with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, and Drake. But she’s also drawing lots of attention to her brother, Joey Gaston.
Gaston, a starting quarterback for Iona Prep, spoke to Complex this week and discussed his sister’s popularity, as well as the way it has impacted him on the field. Of course, the pros of being Ice Spice’s younger brother must outweigh the cons, and we aren’t sure Joey isn’t enjoying the extra attention he’s been getting, but defensive ends are chirping his sister’s lyrics at him when they get through to him in games.
“They sack me, and they’re like, ‘You thought I was feeling you?’” he told the publication.
“I was playing in the semifinals of the playoffs. Second half, we’re getting ready to go on the field. I hear the student section like, ‘All right, he’s coming, he’s coming’,” he continued. “They start clapping and saying ‘We love Ice Spice’ clap clap ‘we love Ice Spice’. Next drive, I threw a touchdown, and I went to the sidelines and started clapping.”
Meanwhile, Joey has registered just under 2200 passing yards, 740 rushing yards, and 24 total touchdowns in his junior season. He says he dreams of going to the NFL and has modeled his game after Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray.
