Late last year the Colorado Buffaloes signed former NFL star and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders to a massive five-year, $29.5 million contract to be the head coach of their football program. Sanders was coming off an impressive three year run at Jackson State where he compiled a 27-6 overall record.
Although Prime has yet to even coach one game at Colorado, his big name and presence has already had a huge impact at his new university, especially financially.
The hype that Neon Deion brings is real and that definitely reflects in the numbers as merchandise sales are way up, season tickets have been sold out for weeks and Colorado’s social media presence has exploded since the hiring of Sanders was announced.
Last season’s spring game was attended by 1,950 fans, this weekend’s spring game is sold out with over 45,000 fans expected to attend and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Coach Sanders will have his work cut out for him as the Buffaloes are coming off one of their worse seasons ever, winning just one game and finishing the season with a 1-11 record. Colorado is hoping Sanders can turn the program around like he did at Jackson State, who were also struggling before Deion showed up.
Colorado will open its season on Saturday September 2nd when they travel to Texas to take on the TCU Horned Frogs which is surely to be one of the more anticipated matchups to open the College Football season.
