Kyree Young had a chance to make it out of Akron with his talent, and he will never realize that dream after he passed away on Monday night. He was killed in a shooting that occurred after an altercation.
The 18-year-old college football recruit from Ohio was said to be found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene by the Akron Police Department and Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Young was reportedly shot by an unknown individual who fled from the scene.
The three-star running back from the 2021 class was ranked as the No. 99 running back and No. 60 recruit from Ohio, according to 247Sports. He received interest from Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, West Virginia, Akron, Kent State, Boston College, Iowa State, Nebraska, Purdue, Pittsburgh and Kentucky.
“Wow, absolutely heartbreaking. Sincere condolences to everyone who knew Kyree Young,” Northeast Ohio HS Sports wrote. “The Kentucky commit just graduated from Massillon Washington a few months ago, but had played for Barberton and Buchtel during his high school career. Rest in power.”
