Any young life being taken away is tragic, but even more so when a youngster was getting set to head into adulthood and had the world in front of them.
Jackson State University as well as DeSoto High School are both in mourning today after finding out the tragic news that football star Leroy Hawkins had passed away after being shot and killed on Tuesday in a car in downtown Dallas.
Hawkins was said to have been sitting in a car when an assailant came and began arguing with 2 people inside of the vehicle. He would soon brandish a weapon and begin firing. Investigators state Hawkins and the shooter knew each other. He was found in the passenger seat with multiple gun shot wounds.
Hawkins led the DeSoto Eagles to a 9-3 record during his senior year and had received a full scholarship to Jackson State University.
Some of his last tweets were of him celebrating his graduation from high school and looking forward to attending JSU.
