An eagle-eyed social media detective has outlined Noah Ruggles’ mistake leading to his missed field goal against Georgia on Saturday.
The Ohio State Buckeyes came within a field goal of beating the Bulldogs and progressing to the national championship game but ended up losing by a single point as they missed an admittedly difficult 50-yard attempt.
A Keen Observation
Lettermen Row reporter Tim May took to Twitter on Monday to point out exactly why the FG attempt failed as badly as it did.
May claimed to have carefully observed Ruggles’ two attempts and would discover that the issue stemmed from the player’s planted foot.
“Finally looked at last 2 FG attempts by Noah Ruggles,” he wrote. “The made one from 48 yds, then see plant foot on miss from 50 was few inches closer to ball. He pulled that one low and left. Slightest overstride.”
