A former NCAA and NFL football coach was arrested on Friday for driving under the influence.
According to a report from Stephen Tsai of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, former University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and Atlanta Falcons’ head coach June Jones was arrested at 9:28 p.m. and posted a $500 bail.
Jones gave a short statement on the arrest:
“I was speeding, and got stopped. I was coming from eating dinner. That’s all I need to say right now.”
Jones is currently employed as the offensive coordinator for the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons, a job he started this year. The 70-year-old Jones coached the Falcons from 1994 to ’96, compiling a 19-29 record.
In 1998, the San Diego Chargers hired Jones as their quarterbacks head coach. He was the interim head coach for 10 games after the team dismissed Kevin Gilbride, compiling a 3-7 record there.
The University of Hawaii then hired Jones for their head coaching position in 1999. Over his nine years with the Rainbow Warriors, Jones compiled a 76-41-0 record, and he led the school to three Hawaii Bowl victories.

In 2008, Jones took the SMU Mustangs’ head coaching position. There, he compiled a total 36-43-0 record, leading the school to a BBVA Compass Bowl victory and to a Hawaii Bowl win the following year.
The well-traveled Jones was also the head coach of the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 2017 to 2018. He was the head coach of the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL for the 2020 season following the league’s relaunch.
The league shut down early because of the COVID-19. Jones was then hired for the TSL Conqueror’s OC role in The Spring League.
