Earlier this year, former Oregon Ducks wide receiver, who is now the football and track and field coach at Parkrose High School in Portland, was said to have stopped a school shooting in progress. Lowe disarmed a student who brought a weapon to school before a single person was shot back in May.
Footage of that incident has now been obtained and it shows Lowe taking the gun from student Angel Granados-Diaz and then it shows him hugging the troubled student as kids make their way out of class and out of the school.
Lowe had been in the classroom earlier looking for the student, as other students identified him to a staff member because of “concerning behavior” by the armed student.
About 10 minutes before the end of class, the student appeared in the doorway in a black trench coat and pulled a long gun from beneath his coat. He did not point the gun at anyone. Students fled out the back door because the gunman was blocking the main doorway.
“I’m just happy everyone was OK,” Lowe said as he walked out of the school about four hours after the incident, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive. “I’m happy I was able to be there for the kids and for the community.”
The former standout WR caught 10 touchdown passes in his college career and had nearly 900 receiving yards, and he saw playing time on special teams.
