Could Florida State University be next on the list of growing teams that have to change their nickname?
The Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Indians are already on the list of teams that have dropped their previous names and will be canging to something else in the future, with Cleveland already choosing the ‘Guardians.’
Earlier this month, the sports marketing company Quality Logo Products surveyed 1,266 people about which of 128 college football mascots were the best, worst, sexiest, creepiest, and most offensive.
The outcome deemed the FSU Seminoles as the most offensive.

“While the school says the act serves as ‘a tribute to the great Seminole Tribe of Florida,’ many outsiders have taken issue with the act, often calling it racist,” the company noted on its blog.
However, they added this bit of important information:
“It’s important to remember that the Seminole Tribe of Florida has endorsed the school’s use of the name and representation,” the company noted.
Notre Dame, nicknamed the Fighting Irish, has already pushed back on the survey.
“It is worth noting … that there is no comparison between Notre Dame’s nickname and mascot and the Indian and warrior names (and) mascots used by other institutions such as the NFL team formerly known as the Redskins,” the school said in a statement to the Indy Star on Monday. “None of these institutions were founded or named by Native Americans who sought to highlight their heritage by using names and symbols associated with their people.
“Our symbols stand as celebratory representations of a genuine Irish heritage at Notre Dame a heritage that we regard with respect, loyalty and affection.”
