Mike Norvell was treated to a very unique bath after leading the Florida State Seminoles to victory in the Cheez-It Bowl on Thursday. While it was different, the shower was apt, applicable, and deserved, given who the bowl’s sponsors are.
Florida State went into the game against the Oklahoma Sooners with every reason to feel good about their chances, having come on the back of a winning streak, while Oklahoma was nursing multiple player injuries.
However, the win was a tough one and the Seminoles got off to a pretty rough start. The Sooners built themselves a double-digit lead very early in the second quarter but Florida State would end up outscoring them 32-18 in the second half en route to a 35-32 comeback win.
So coach Norvell had to go through this…
The win took the Seminoles to 10 victories for the season, also marking their first Bowl triumph for the first time since 2016.
Norvell had a difficult first season in charge of Florida State following his appointment in 2019. While he led them to a win over North Carolina to become the first ACC coach to beat a Top 20 opponent, the Seminoles finished 3-6. Norvell’s record as a coach was 3-5, though, as he missed a game after testing positive for COVID-19.
