One of the nation’s top high school prospects has decided to take his talents to UCLA after previously committing to Oregon.
Five-star recruit and quarterback Dante Moore told informed ESPN that he has decided to commit to the Bruins’ program, fittingly led by former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly. Moore attends Martin Luther King High School in Detroit, Michigan.
“I went on a visit to UCLA,” Moore said to ESPN. “I talked to God and my people and really within myself. I knew that UCLA was the right move for me.”
Oregon standout quarterback Bo Nix recently announced that he’s returning to the school for the 2023 season. The 22-year-old Nix transferred to Oregon from Auburn, and he pieced together the best season of his career in year one with the Ducks.
Nix completed 71.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,389 yards, 27 touchdowns and just six interceptions to go along with 504 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns (both career bests). Oregon will play the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28.
While speaking to ESPN, Moore emphasized that Nix’s announcement didn’t influence his decision to flip his commitment. Moore has led Martin Luther King High to consecutive Division 3 State championships.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson had a successful 2022 season as UCLA’s starting quarterback. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Thompson-Robinson has completed 69.8 percent of his pass attempts for 2,883 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions to go along with 631 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
