The family of a University of Georgia player killed in a car crash is planning to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the university.
Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy died in a Jan. 15 crash that happened mere hours after the football program held a back-to-back championship parade in Athens. Recruiting analyst Victoria Bowles and offensive lineman Warren McClendon survived the crash.
Athens-Clarke police previously determined in its investigation that racing, reckless driving, speed, and alcohol impairment contributed to the crash.
Devin Willock’s father has reportedly filed a $2 million lawsuit in what may become the first civil action involving that crash, the AJC reported.
Lawyers have disputed the university’s version of the crash. Per The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Willock is blaming it on a lack of oversight by football team officials. His lawyers claim that some recruits were at an Athens strip club with Willock, LeCroy, and other people while also claiming that LeCroy was served alcohol when she was assigned to take recruits around the campus in an SUV.
Police investigators said a 2021 Ford Expedition “failed to negotiate a left curve, resulting in the vehicle striking the curb with its front passenger tire and leaving the roadway on the west shoulder.”

The SUV struck a power pole and another utility pole, and sliced them in half, before striking a tree. That sent the vehicle spinning in a clockwise direction before it crashed into another tree on the driver’s side — where both LeCroy and Willock were sitting.
In the aftermath, the program has had several honors in memory of Willock and LeCroy in recent months, with the most recent one happening at the G-Spring game. The players took their helmets off to pay tribute to Willock and LeCroy and hugged one another after the penalty.
