Football fans felt it for C.J. Stroud after the Ohio State quarterback revealed how some Buckeyes fans reacted to the program’s struggles this past season.
Stroud had a poor finish to the year, which ended in the school getting booted out of the Big Ten championship race via a blowout loss to Michigan.
Speaking to the Columbus Dispatch, the signal-caller revealed that fans actually sent him money through Venmo just so they could criticize him. Stroud isn’t on social media during college football season, so it was not easy to get a message to him. But one could add a note if sending money to someone via the Venmo platform so the fans made use of the feature.
To be fair, this is pretty ingenious, though it comes at a cost.
Plenty of fans offered the player support after seeing this.
“Have to ignore some people they are not your true fans YES we were devastated by our loss but you come back stronger you gave us your all and SOME OF US APPRECIATED YOU,” one said in the comments.

“People are ridiculous,” another fan wrote.
“Venmo DMs to tell CJ Stroud to play better is absolutely insane,” another added.
Well, at least he got some cash for his trouble. Abuse via platforms such as Facebook or Instagram wouldn’t have been accompanied by anything else.
