Former University of Memphis and Austin Peay football player Nigel Brannon has tragically lost his life at a young age after he was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Oklahoma, according to police.
Brannon was inside a car “involved in some sort of illegal activity” that resulted in gunfire, reports said. The accused shooter reportedly stayed at the scene and told officers conflicting stories about the shooting.
Brannon was shot multiple times and died inside a car in the parking lot.
“There were two individuals inside a vehicle,” said Oklahoma City police Sgt. Dillon Quirk. “They were conducting an illegal activity, and at some point, it resulted in one male being shot by another.”
You may remember Nigel from August 2021 when he was arrested on charges he slashed the neck of a fellow player during a fight over a room key. He was arrested for holding a knife to his teammates throat and holding him against his will. The unnamed player was cut on the throat so deeply that it required stitches.
Brannon told police he was angry that he had lost the key to his room and believed it was in the victim’s room, a warrant said. He was arrested for aggravated assault and kidnapping
