Prayers are pouring in following the death of former college quarterback Brian Ellis, who was identified as one of the victims of last week’s tragic plane crash over the Potomac River.
The incident, one of several to occur last week, saw a military Black Hawk helicopter collide with an American Airlines passenger flight that was attempting to land at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport last Wednesday.
Flight AA5342 had 60 passengers and four crew members on board, while the helicopter was carrying four soldiers. Investigations have since determined that the latter’s pilot had taken it up to an ill-advised altitude, at least 100 feet higher than it was supposed to have been flying.
The Baltimore Banner has since revealed that former Naval Academy QB Brian Ellis, described as someone who “would do anything to help people,” was one of the victims. The revelation prompted multiple sad tweets.
“RIP good man,” a user wrote.

Brian Ellis Played 22 Games For Navy
Ellis, a 1993 graduate, featured in 22 games for Navy in 1991 and 1992. A backup player for the program, he started the second game of the 92 season after Jim Kubiak dislocated a shoulder in the opener. He was injured himself shortly after.
The QB sustained a fractured jaw during a game against Boston College and spent two months with his mouth wired shut. He was able to return for the last game of the season against Army.
TPS sends condolences to Ellis’ family, friends, and loved ones following this unthinkable tragedy.
May he rest in peace.
