Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has seen some criticism come his way online following what he had to say about a former Colorado player.
The Buffaloes QB didn’t hold back after catching wind of what safety Xavier Smith said about his father, Deion Sanders in a recent piece.
Smith was one of Coach Prime’s CU cuts who spoke to The Athletic in an article detailing their paths after Sanders told them to enter the transfer portal. The former Jackson State head coach let 20 scholarship players know they were surplus to requirements after he took over in Boulder.
He told the publication he never got a one-on-one with Sanders, with defensive coordinator Charles Kelly bringing him and another safety, Oakie Salave’a, into the office to speak to Primetime.
“We sat on the sofa, and he’s talking to us, but he’s not even looking at us,” he said. “I’m looking Coach Kelly dead in his eyes. (Sanders) said he felt like I should hit the portal. He didn’t want me to waste a year thinking I could earn a spot.

“I was actually getting mad, like tears coming to my eyes. Because, bro, you never even tried to get to know me.”
Smith added that Sanders’ method was harsher than expected, claiming the coach destroyed his confidence.
“He was destroying guys’ confidence and belief in themselves,” he continued. “The way he did it, it could’ve been done with a little more compassion.“
Shedeur Sanders Responded To Xavier Smith’s Comments About His Dad
Shedeur Sanders has since suggested Smith had to be an average player at best, as he doesn’t even remember him.
“I (don’t) even remember him to be honest,” he said in response. “Bro had to be very mid at best.”
Fans on social media really hated what the QB had to say.
“Im sure NFL GMs love this chatter ab former teammates,” one wrote.
“man this team needs to at least get to bowl eligibility or the levels of hate they receive this year are going to be unheard of,” wrote another.
“Nah that’s lame as the “leader” saying he was mid could be true but saying it in public is crazy,” another commented.
