Fans felt like the refs were doing their best to get Notre Dame back in the game on Monday night while they were attempting to fight their way back.
Ohio State came out on top of a National Championship Game they had full control of for the most part. The Buckeyes were up by as much as 31-7 at one point, but the Fighting Irish looked like they might turn things around by the end of the third quarter.
They cut the lead to 16 points with a 75-yard drive consisting of 10 plays, with Ohio State getting called for pass interference on said drive. Notre Dame also got two defensive holding calls on their next possession.
While the penalty calls were legitimate, fans believed the refs were trying to get Marcus Freeman’s team back in the game.
Many of them took to social media to suggest as much.
“Refs tryna get Notre Dame back in the game for ratings,” one fan wrote.

“Refs trynna rig it for notre dame,” added a second.
“The refs are giving the game to NOTRE Dame. WOW Ohio state is getting screwed,” another comment read.
“The refs are keeping Notre Dame in this game far more than they ever have for the Chiefs,” a user claimed.
Notre Dame Blew It At The End
Notre Dame had everything going their way in the late stretch, but a decision to attempt a field goal instead of going for it ended up costing them, as the kick resulted in a doink.
Mitch Jeter, the hero in the semi against Penn State, hit the upright from 27 yards out, leaving the Irish with nothing after a 70-yard drive.
