NFL Redzone started back in 2009 as a special game-day exclusive broadcast that shows actions in all games being played and goes live into any game that has a team in the red zone, hence the name. It was a game-changer in the sports industry.
Fast forward to 2023 and now it seems ESPN wants to copy that idea.
On Wednesday’s edition of “The Pat McAfee Show,” the retired punter relayed that Rece Davis will be with his crew to deliver college football fans the action from Saturday night’s slate of games.
“Rece Davis will be with us here in the Thunderdome for our next mega-cast simulcast on Saturday night that’ll be a take on RedZone,” McAfee said. “It’ll be a college football frenzy, a college football prime-time cover. Basically, every game that’s happening on Saturday evening, we’ll be cutting in and out of whenever things heat up. Now, if it’s a bit dry and games get cold, boom, we’ll hit some highlights from earlier in the day.
“That’s the vision. We’ll see if we can execute it. We can’t wait for it.”
The first College Football Playoff rankings came out this week as No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Michigan, and No. 4 Florida State made up the top four spots as revealed Tuesday night. No. 5 Washington and No. 6 Oregon came in next. Some of these teams will be in action this weekend.
With two months of the regular season in the books, the race for the College Football Playoff now turns to November and a series of games that will determine which teams eventually play for the national championship.

That starts on Saturday with a series of games involving some of the top teams including a matchup between No. 13 LSU and No. 8 Alabama that should decide the SEC West.
ESPN’s red zone is going to be quite busy.
