Aside from waiting to see their favorite program get on the field to see how better they’ve gotten, fan bases always want to know which teams have the toughest and easiest schedules headed into a new college season.
Earlier this month, ESPN updated its Football Power Index (FPI) in anticipation of the upcoming 2019 college football season and there were some shocking results on there.
“The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.”
According to the FPI, the five toughest schedules in the country can be found in the Pac-12 and SEC.
South Carolina
USC
Florida
Stanford
Georgia
Teams like the Alabama Crimson Tide are ranked 20th, while the Clemson Tigers are ranked 56th.
For all the folks who like to scream “Texas is back,” they’ll have a chance to prove it with a soft schedule that is currently ranked 35th.
