ESPN embarrassingly credited former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning for something he didn’t do during Friday’s Orange Bowl.
Manning is a Pro Football Hall of Famer, a two-time Super Bowl champ, a Super Bowl MVP, a five-time regular season MVP, and two time-Offensive Player of the year. He also made the Pro Bowl team 14 years out of the 18 he spent in the league and was on the All-Pro First Team seven times. So he really doesn’t need any help when it comes to proving himself as one of the greatest to ever do it.
ESPN felt the need to during the bowl game on Friday night, however, putting Manning on screen while he watched his Tennessee Volunteers play the Clemson Tigers, The broadcasters would name the former QB a National Champion with claims he won it with Tennessee in 1998 – except it never happened.
Peyton Manning Never Won A Championship In College…
Peyton was at Tennessee from 1994-1997 and never won a championship. The team went on to win the year after he left.
The Florida Gators had Peyton’s number while he played college football, beating him for four straight years. The 46-year-old’s Tennessee record stands at 8-4, 11-1, 10-2, and 11-2. Impressive, yes, but he never won a championship with the Volunteers.
Fortunately, Peyton was able to win on football’s grandest stage, twice. So he shouldn’t mind too much. Plus he got to watch his alma mater win the Orange Bowl 31-14 against the Tigers.

He could have really done without that odd graphic, though.
