ESPN’s College GameDay has revealed its destination for the first week of the upcoming NCAA football season, with the new term set to begin just five weeks from now.
The show’s Twitter account announced the broadcast will air from Charlotte, North Carolina for the Duke’s Mayo Classic affair between Carolina-based rivals, the University of North Carolina and the University of South Carolina.
“WE’RE COMING TO THE QUEEN CITY! See you Week 1 in Charlotte for a battle of the Carolinas,” the announcement reads.
The fixture is set to be played out at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte for the fourth consecutive time, with the schools’ rivalry dating back over 120 years.
UNC has the advantage at 35-20-4, however, South Carolina has left the field victoriously in 13 of the last 20 outings, including the most recent.
The last time they met was in the 2021 Duke’s Mayo, the first Bowl game played between the two programs.

“We are extremely grateful to support the traditions that come with college football and the positive impact they continue to have on the Charlotte community and fans around the country,” President of Duke’s Mayo, Joe Tuza, said when the fixture was announced in May.
“As a Southern brand and the Official Condiment of the Tailgate, we pride ourselves on memorable hospitality and hope to create a weekend of fun and unique experiences as we kick off another great season.”
Seems like an excellent choice by ESPN.
