ESPN has announced having reached a deal with Theater Sports Network that will see them air ACC college football games at theaters.
Per a press release, the “theatrical distribution agreement” will see The Worldwide Leader In Sports show 75 games in the upcoming season, including the New Year’s Six Bowl games, as well as the CFP Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl and the CFP National Championship.
ACC games shown on ESPN platforms will be available for distribution by Theater Sports Network in away team markets or home and away markets for neutral site games. The participating theaters will decide the cost of attendance.
The companies hope to offer fans an experience similar to what they would get if they went to a game at a stadium.
“We believe movie theaters are the next great frontier for live sporting events, and we are elated with this unprecedented agreement with ESPN,” Theater Sports Network’s president and COO Scott Daw said .” We look forward to bringing these games to ACC football fans. We believe that theaters have the ability to generate excitement around live sporting events.
“These events will replicate the feel of a football stadium experience as fans gather and fill theaters to watch the games on the big screen. As we move forward, we hope to add games from additional college football conferences as well as other live sporting events.”
Such deals aren’t new to ESPN as they partnered with Cinemark in both 2021 and 2022 to bring the CFP semifinal and National Championship games to theaters.
