Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed is reportedly eyeing the head coaching position for an interesting NCAA football program.
Last year, Reed agreed to a deal that would make him the new head coach of the Bethune–Cookman Wildcats football program. However, the two sides officially parted ways in January after the school refused to ratify his contract.
It appears as though Reed is ready to try his hand at coaching again, as HBCU Sports reports that the Baltimore Ravens legend and Super Bowl 47 champion has interest in taking over the Grambling State head coaching position:
“Ed Reed, who had a cup of coffee as Bethune-Cookman head coach before the school decided to cut ties after he publicly criticized the university, is interested in another HBCU job.
Grambling State is currently without a coach, and Reed is interested in the position, a source with knowledge of the situation told HBCU Sports.
The source indicated that both Reed and Grambling did engage in communication.”
Former Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson served as the Grambling State head coach over the last two years before being relieved of his duties last month. Jackson went 8-14 over his two years with the Tigers.
The nine-time Pro Bowler and 2004 Defensive Player of the Year was a Buffalo Bills’ assistant defensive backs coach under Rex Ryan in 2016. He served as the Chief of Staff for the Miami Hurricanes (his alma mater) from 2020 to 2021 and then spent the 2022 season as a senior advisor for the program.

Reed’s friend, fellow Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, just finished his fourth season as a head coach at NCAA. After coaching Jackson State for three years, Sanders took over the Colorado Buffaloes’ program and coached them to a 4-8 record this year.
