Ed Reed’s deal to become the new head coach of the Bethune–Cookman Wildcats football may have fallen through, but another school is reportedly interested in hiring the Pro Football Hall of Famer.
Last month, Bethune-Cookman hired Reed for their vacant head coaching position. Over the weekend, however, Reed posted a statement on social media that the deal fell through.
In an interview on “Roland Martin Unfiltered” (h/t Chantz Martin of FOX News), the Baltimore Ravens legend explained that he has received an offer to coach the Jackson State Tigers’ program, as the school lost another Hall of Famer in Deion Sanders. Prime Time left Jackson State to take the Colorado Buffaloes’ position.
“I turned down the Jackson State job to be here, Roland,” Reed said. “Prime called me. Deion Sanders called me himself, man.”
Renowned for his excellent football IQ during his playing days, it’s no surprise that multiple programs have been interested in bringing Reed on as their new head coach. At this point, it appears to only be a matter of time until he begins his collegiate coaching career.

Regarded as one of the NFL’s all-time great defensive backs, Reed played 11 seasons for the Ravens (2002 to 2012), winning a Super Bowl 47 championship. He split his final season in 2013 with the Houston Texans and New York Jets, retiring as a nine-time Pro Bowler.
