Amid controversy and a lawsuit, EA Sports is still reportedly planning to go ahead with its NCAA college football video game for a summer 2024 reelase.
In a statement to Chris Vannini of The Athletic, EA Sports stated that an ongoing lawsuit from The Brandr Group will not affect the video game developer’s timeline on getting out the next “NCAA Football” game next year:
“The complaint will not impact our development timelines. The game is on track and is a priority for EA Sports. We’re incredibly excited to bring back college football.”
The Brandr Group represents several NCAA schools and helps with licensing for their athletes for NIL (name, image, and likeness). The Brandr Group is suing EA Sports for not involving them in recent discussions regarding NIL payments for the upcoming video game.
The popular “NCAA Football” video game series first launched in 1993 under the name “Bill Walsh College Football”, named for Pro Football Hall of Famer and head coach Bill Walsh. Three years later, EA Sports renamed the series to “College Football USA”.

After two years, the series was then named “NCAA Football”, beginning in 1998. EA Sports continued to use that title with the corresponding year through 2014, the final installment of the video game series.
Because of legal battles over player NILs, EA Sports stopped making “College Football” video games following the 2014 installment. By the time the 2024 version is released, it will have been a long 10-decade wait for college football fans.
Rest assured, it is going to be here by next summer despite the ongoing lawsuit with The Brandr Group
