Coastal Carolina has suspended sophomore quarterback Dontrell Jackson indefinitely after he was arrested last week on gun and drug charges, according to WMBF News.
The 19-year-old was arrested Wednesday by the Coastal Carolina Police Department and released two days later after posting a $5,115. He is charged with simple possession of marijuana (less than 28 grams), first offense ($615); carrying or displaying firearms in public buildings or adjacent areas ($2,500); and sale or delivery of pistol to, and possession by, certain persons unlawful ($2,000).
“Coastal Carolina University student Dontrell Jackson has been suspended indefinitely from all football-related activities,” the school said in a statement to WMBF News.
Jackson’s Coastal Carolina bio no longer appears on the Chanticleers’ website.
Last season, Jackson was the backup quarterback to Grayson McCall. He was set to have a similar role this fall.
The former three-star recruit picked Coastal Carolina over Akron, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic and several other programs. He can only hope to be able to continue his college career.
