Just when you thought the beef between LaVar Ball and Donald Trump was over, it got rehashed during the White House Press Conference on Monday.
It’s been over a year since the President of the United States and LaVar Ball had a back and forth about who was really responsible for freeing LiAngelo Ball after he had been detained for stealing high-end items out of different stores while in China with a few teammates on the UCLA Basketball team.
Trump took a jab at LaVar and the Ball family when talking about his relationship with China and Chinese President Xi Jinping (H/T Caleb Ecarma of Mediaite):
President Donald Trump relitigated his year-old beef with sports media personality LaVar Ball, whose son, along with two other players, was apprehended in China for theft while he was playing basketball for UCLA in 2017.
“I said, ‘It would be a great thing if you could possibly let them out?’ He goes, ‘So be it. They’re out.’ I said, ‘is this different than our country, eh? Just a little bit different?’” Trump said, repeating the discussion he had with President Xi Jinping to a group of governors at the White House today. “We got them out. Then we came back and the one father said, ‘Well we don’t know that Trump helped. I sent a consultant.’ That consultant would have gotten nowhere.”

Despite Trump’s claim of helping, Arash Markazi of ESPN wrote a detailed timeline of the events that showed the players had already been given clearance to return to the U.S. before they were made aware of Trump’s involvement.
