Oklahoma star quarterback Dillon Gabriel announced on Monday morning that he will be taking his talents elsewhere as he enters the transfer portal.
The senior, who weighs 204 pounds and is 5 feet 11 inches, played three seasons at UCF before moving to Oklahoma in 2022. After leading the Big 12 with 3,660 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, and six interceptions and leading the Sooners to a 10-win regular season, Gabriel was named unanimously to the first team of the Big 12.
Although he is eligible to enter the NFL Draft, Gabriel is expected to explore his options for his extra season of eligibility before making a decision.
“The past 2 years here at OU as a Sooner I have made memories with friends and family that remind me how blessed I am,” Gabriel wrote. “I have been able to play football for an amazing group of coaches and alongside men who have become my brothers. More than anything I have grown in faith and love. I appreciate and cherish these memories and relationships forever. My time in The Palace was a game-time experience I will never forget. Sooner Nation, you held me accountable and I am better for it.
“Coach BV (Brent Venables), my coaches, and the football staff, I am grateful for your care, knowledge, and insight. Most of all, thanks for your faith in me and the opportunity to lead and be a member of OU’s team 128 and 129.”
Gabriel is the second major quarterback name that intends to enter the portal on the first day of the winter transfer window, following Ohio State starter Kyle McCord.

Gabriel was a two-year starter for the Sooners who racked up 6,828 passing yards and 73 total touchdowns. In his two seasons at OU, Gabriel played in and started 24 games, missing only the 2022 Red River Rivalry after suffering a concussion against TCU.
He will forever be etched in history as became the first Oklahoma QB to throw for 250 yards and rush for 100 yards against Texas, leading OU down the field for a game-winning drive with just over a minute on the clock.
It is unclear whether or not Gabriel will suit up on Dec. 28 when No. 12 Oklahoma takes on No. 14 Arizona in the Alamo Bowl.
