Dick Vitale has become one of the most familiar voices in college basketball. Sadly, it appears as though that voice could be in jeopardy based on the latest update on the legendary commentator’s health.
According to a recent announcement from Vitale himself, he’ll need to undergo two surgeries on his vocal cords this summer. Dick claims that the surgeries were required after “past issues” with his vocal cords returned.
Vitale delivered the news via his Twitter account.
The good news is that Vitale has Dr. Steven Zeitels working on him. Zeitels was tasked with Vitale’s previous vocal cord operation, and he has also worked on some of the world’s top musicians.
And there’s more good news, too! Vitale has also been informed that he could be back in time for the start of the 2023-24 college basketball season, which would mark his 45th at ESPN.
