Michigan Wolverines legend Desmond Howard is facing criticism for comments he made about colleague Pete Thamel on ESPN’s “College GameDay” program ahead of Saturday’s Ohio State-Michigan game.
On the panel, Howard questioned why Thamel was reporting inside Michigan Stadium instead of outside with the football crowd. Apparently, Thamel has received some threats from Wolverines fans, so the reporting inside the stadium was presumably done for his personal safety (h/t Dylan Svoboda of the New York Post):
“What are we, Week 13 now? So we’ve been doing this 12, 13 weeks. He’s always been in the crowd giving his reports…That kind of just threw me all off. Put your big boy pants on and do it in the crowd like you have been doing. I was surprised by that.”
Fans were stunned by Howard’s comments and called him out for the bizarre calling out of his colleague:

Howard played for the Wolverines from 1988 to ’91, winning the Heisman Trophy in the latter year. He also won a Super Bowl 31 ring with the Green Bay Packers and earned MVP honors for the big game.
