Deion “Prime” Sanders, the former NFL star turned University of Colorado head coach, is back in the hospital once again this week due to another blood clot procedure as well as additional surgeries on his foot.
His long-time girlfriend, Tracey Edmonds, updated his status by sharing a pre-op photo with herself, Colorado athletic trainer, Lauren Askevold, and Deion Sanders prior to his second surgery for blood clots on Thursday.
Sanders underwent surgery in June to remove blood clots in his left leg. On his YouTube page, he made it known before his first procedure that he would need multiple surgeries to remove both blood clots to improve blood flow in his legs.
His health has been in question since his time at Jackson State. Doctors amputated two toes from Sanders’ left foot to improve circulation issues while he coached there in 2021.
He informed fans last month that doctors will not amputate his foot at this time.

“There’s no talk of amputation,” Sanders said in another video. “The doctor was just telling me worst comes to worst, that [amputating the foot] was gonna happen. But I believe in staying right so we never have to take that left.
Once his health is back in order, Sanders is poised to revamp a Colorado football team that’s given him the keys after the school announced him as their new head coach in December.
The NFL hall of fame player wasted no time after his hiring to let players know they could stay aboard or jump in the portal to leave because he was bringing his own luggage.
Since his hiring, over 55 Colorado players on the team headed for the transfer portal.
Colorado will travel to Texas to play the TCU Horned Frogs to kick off their 2023-24 regular season on Sept. 2.
