After the SWAC title game, Deion Sanders gathered his entire team in a meeting room and informed them he would be leaving for Colorado. Sanders will go from making about $300,000 a year to reported salary of more than $5 million.
Obviously, there was some disappointment and it came from a family member.
According to Jeff Lightsly Jr., Sanders’ son, Shilo was reportedly “upset” that his father wasn’t finishing what he started in Jackson state.
“From the intel that I was able to gather while I was there, Shilo’s upset … Shilo has been invested in the city of Jackson and in the school. … So when he got the news that his father was moving on to Colorado … apparently him and Coach Prime, his own dad, kind of butted heads.”
Sanders needed only two full seasons to make Jackson State the jewel of the conference. The Tigers went undefeated in the SWAC for the second consecutive season, and they are 23-2 in their past 25 games.
It will virtually impossible for the program to hire a coach with charisma similar to Sanders. He gave them lasting memories that will be talked about for years to come.

In Boulder, Sanders will try to resurrect one of the worst programs in college football. Colorado, 1-11 this season, lost 10 games by at least 23 points.
