Deion Sanders had something to say about five-star recruit Cormani McClain opting to enter the transfer portal after one season with the Buffaloes.
The cornerback has decided to use the spring portal to explore other options after what was a difficult season with CU in 2023. McClain was the No. 1-ranked CB from the 2024 class and flipped his commitment from Miami to Colorado to play for Coach Prime.
Having previously declared he had no plans to leave the former NFL star, McClain has apparently had a change of heart as he is now very unlikely to suit up for the Buffs in 2024.
Sanders has offered a response.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer spoke to DNVR Sports on Wednesday, telling Ryan Koenigsber and Jake Schwanitz that he will always want the best for his players and hopes Cormani will find a program to challenge him.
“I pray to God that he goes to a program that challenges him as well as holds him accountable and develops him as a young man,” he said (H/T On3). “Unfortunately, we weren’t the program that could accomplish that.“

Primetime says he hopes the player can make the best of the rest of his time in college wherever he lands.
“Go get it, man,” he added. “Because he has a tremendous amount of talent, but he has to want it.“
Deion Sanders Called Cormani McClain Out Last Season
Deion Sanders wasn’t exactly complimentary of his CB last September, so he called him out in front of reporters. He suggested that the player either did not attend meetings or arrive at them on time.
McClain wasn’t involved in the Buffs’ 3-0 start in 2023 despite the hype surrounding his recruitment.
“Be on time for meetings. Show up to the darn meetings,” Sanders said. “Understand what we’re doing as a scheme. Want to play this game. Desire to play this game. Desire to be the best in his game.”
McClain registered 13 tackles and two pass breakups during the season. Sanders insisted he was proud of his development in November, but it appears their working relationship has ended.
