New University of Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has revealed how he managed to recruit cornerback Travis Hunter.
Hunter previously planned to join Florida State, but Prime Time was able to get him to come over to Jackson State, where the former played in 2022. Sanders himself took over as the Tigers’ head coach in 2020.
In a recent YouTube video, the five-star recruit announced his plans to follow the Pro Football Hall of Famer to Colorado.
During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast (h/t Blake Baumgartner of ESPN), “Prime Time” explained how he managed to get Hunter to flip his commitment:
“Trav has got a want inside of him that’s insatiable. He has a work ethic that’s unparalleled and he ain’t scared of the moment. A lot of guys are afraid of the moment. They say they want that rock, but then you don’t win. When (Hunter) is calling for it, he’s going to win.”

Sanders compiled a 27-6 record over his three seasons at Jackson State, leading the school to consecutive SWAC Championships. The Tigers followed up those two titles with losses in the Celebration Bowls.
Sanders is widely regarded as the greatest cornerback in NFL history. He won 1994 Defensive Player of the Year honors and won Super Bowl 29 and Super Bowl 39 rings with the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, respectively.
