As if playing for one Pro Football Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion wasn’t exciting enough for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Deion Sanders is finishing up his first year with the Buffaloes program, having come over from Jackson State following a successful three-year run with the Tigers. Next year, he’ll get a helping hand from one of the best defensive linemen of all time.
Sanders announced that fellow Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp will be on the Buffaloes’ coaching staff next year.
Like Sanders, Sapp was one of the greatest defensive players of his generation. The Hall of Fame defensive tackle played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1995 to 2003 and for the Oakland Raiders from 2004 to 2007.
A seven-time Pro Bowler, Sapp led the Bucs to a Super Bowl 37 championship in the 2002 season and won Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1999. He was named to the 1990s and 2000s All-Decade Teams, retiring with 96.5 career sacks, 21 pass defenses, four interceptions and 19 forced fumbles.
Though the 4-7 record is a great disappointment considering that the Buffs won their first three games, this was a year of progress in Boulder nonetheless. Sanders inherited a one-win club and guided them to four victories, and to think that he’ll be able to recruit more marquee talents next year.
