Deion Sanders is set to make a major hire for Colorado as he readies himself for his first season in charge.
According to Carl Reed Jr. of 247Sports, veteran coach Pat Shurmur will join Coach Prime’s coaching staff as an analyst and has been on campus in Boulder all week familiarizing himself with the program.
“Colorado will be looking for him to add to the culture they are establishing offensively,” Reed tweeted. “And to give the players another resource in their pursuit of reaching the NFL.”
This is pretty significant as Shurmur has over 20 years of experience working in the NFL. He was the Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator from 2020-21 – prior to that, he was the New York Giants’ head coach.

Shurmur was named the 2017 AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year after helping the Minnesota Vikings reach the NFC Championship.
He began his career at Michigan State and Stanford, operating in various coaching roles. His appointment will mark the second former NFL coach to join the program, with Mike Zimmer coming on earlier this year after working with Sanders at Jackson State last in 2022.
Zimmer and Shurmur also worked together during the Vikings’ playoff run in 2017.
