Deion Sanders has gotten yet another individual to follow him from Jackson State to Colorado.
Sanders, who took over as the Buffaloes’ new head coach late last year, has taken some of his players and staff with him, including his son Shedeur Sanders, as well as Travis Hunter.
This week, Coach Prime announced that Mike Zimmer will be joining him in Colorado too.
Zimmer, who worked as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2014-21, spent the last year as an analyst at JSU.
“Coach Zimmer’s coming, too, by the way,” Sanders confirmed in an interview with Thee Pregame Show. “So another two head coaches. One in the NFL as well as collegiate. But not only that. Forget the titles – they know this game and they know kids and they’ve been capable of making tremendous decisions with the kids and the young men in mind.
“So that’s what I adore the most – understanding how to establish the relationships with these young men.”

Zimmer began his coaching career as a part-time defensive assistant at Missouri before switching to Weber State, where he spent eight years. He then moved to Washington State in the role of a defensive coordinator and then took up a 13-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys, working as a defensive assistant, defensive backs coach, and then the team’s defensive coordinator.
The 66-year-old went to work for the Atlanta Falcons as a DC in 2007 then moved to the Cincinnati Bengals. He stayed on as a defensive coordinator from 2008-2013 before becoming the head coach at Minnesota the following year.
Zimmer and Sanders worked together in Dallas when the latter was a player, from 1995-1999, before they teamed up again at Jackson State.
