While other coaches complain about Michigan football with alleged illegal sign stealing, Colorado’s Deion Sanders had a much different response.
Conor Stallion, a member of staff, is accused of purchasing tickets to more than 30 Big Ten games over the course of several seasons, which has put the Michigan Wolverines in the middle of a sign-stealing scandal. People were seated close to the sidelines and were filming the signs the teams used during the games. It may be the largest issue we have seen in a while, as it is only the most recent issue Jim Harbaugh has had with the NCAA.
Deion Sanders was asked about the allegations during his weekly press conference on Tuesday and he had a shocking response to it.
He said during his Tuesday press conference, that knowing the game plan in football does not automatically mean your team will be able to stop the opponent.
Sanders added that it is far more beneficial to know what pitch is coming in baseball than it is to know what play is coming in football because multiple players still have to execute assignments for each play.
“I mean, everyone’s trying to get an edge. I mean everyone’s trying to get whatever it is they can,” Sanders said. “You could have someone’s whole game plan, they can mail it to you, you still got to stop it. You still got to stop it.
“In football, it’s not as pronounced as baseball. If I know a curveball is coming, I got you. With football, I don’t give a darn if you know a sweep is coming. You still got to stop it. Physically, it’s a physical game, you got to stop it so that’s a little tough. I don’t buy into a lot of this stuff that someone’s stealing this, stealing that. I don’t buy into a lot of that. You still got to play the game.
“Back in our glory days with San Francisco as well as the Cowboys, you know darn well Emmitt Smith is getting the ball. You know darn well Mike Irvin is running to come back. You know darn well Jay Novacek is gonna do what he’s gonna do and you can’t stop it.”

Sign stealing is not prohibited by the NCAA, but in-person scouting to gain an advantage in relation to sign stealing is.
Just over a week away from the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season, Michigan certainly has a case to be No. 1. Michigan won at Michigan State 49-0, perhaps the Wolverines’ most dominant game this year.
The Wolverines enter the bye week 8-0. as the program continues to deal with the backlash from this investigation. Until a decision has been made, the Wolverines will look to continue to roll past their opposition.
