Prospective UCLA football recruits from a Riverside County high school were identified as suspects who allegedly stole several items from the Colorado Buffaloes locker room at the Rose Bowl.
Valuable items were stolen from both locker rooms when the Colorado Buffaloes faced the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl on Oct. 28th.
Instead of laying into those juveniles and putting them on blast, Coach Prime decided to do the opposite and deliver a classy message instead.
“Let’s not crucify and punish these high school kids,” Sanders said. “Whatever the punishment that comes along with it, alright, let that be that, community service or whatever it is. But, let’s not abort the rest of their opportunities and lives because of a mistake. Because, if we were to really do a roll-call at the age of 17 to 18 in here, I’m sure everybody would tip out of here with their head down like we’re in church.
“Let’s make sure that those kids atone for what transpired — but they don’t lose an opportunity to change their lives. They’re kids. They made a stupid, dumb, idiotic mistake. Guess what? When I was 17 or 18, so did I. So did you. I’m praying for those kids. It was very unfortunate that we were on the other end of that.”
It was reported that at least three of Sanders’ players had jewelry taken from their lockers, while others had headphones and cash stolen from them. Some missing items had already been returned by mail to Colorado.

Coming off a dismal 1-11 season in 2022, the Buffaloes became one of college football’s most talked-about teams following the hiring of NFL Hall of Famer Sanders as head coach. Colorado started 3-0 but then dropped to 4-4 with the loss to UCLA.
The team is now 4-6 and has lost four in a row as they sit in 11th place in the Pac-12.
Colorado will need to figure out a way to respond itself before a difficult stretch.
