New University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has knocked back criticism over the significant number of players to have left the program since he was appointed.
Sanders won his first game in charge of the Buffaloes this past weekend but has seen a number of highly-rated players enter the transfer portal on the back of the spring fixture.
A total of 41 players have hit the portal under Coach Prime’s young tenure and his critics view it as a sign that Sanders isn’t getting a lot right at Boulder. But, speaking to Pat McAfee on the latter’s podcast on Wednesday, Sanders pointed out he always meant for this to happen.
McAfee showed a short clip of the former star NFL cornerback telling the Colorado players none of them were safe and that it was his job to replace every one of them.
“My job is to replace every damn one of y’all,” he was heard telling the team on an episode of Amazon Prime’s Coach Prime documentary. “Your job is to let me not do that.”
“We know what we want at Colorado and we don’t settle,” Sanders told McAfee, claiming it’s “crazy” that people think this is all random.

Deion brought his son Shedeur from Jackson State with him, as well as former No. 1-ranked recruit Travis Hunter. He has also secured multiple commitments from top prospects.
Meanwhile, Shedeur appeared to lash out at one of the wide receivers to hit the transfer portal this week, going on Instagram Live to call him out.
