Deion Sanders has explained the financial consequences a college football program has to face when signing a player from the transfer portal.
Given the arrival of NIL, players are now commanding hefty sums. And, with the lack of regulation, as it pertains to the portal, money is being thrown all over the place as schools try to sign the best possible talent every year.
Coach Prime knows a thing or two about the portal as it’s where he thrives. Speaking to Robert Griffin III on the latter’s ‘RG3 and The Ones” podcast this week, he explained just how hectic things could get.
“They need to just jump in the portal with what they cost, and just make it easy,” he said.
“Hey uh $100,000 here, $50,000 here, $500,000 here,” said Griffin III joked.
“$50,000?? $50,000 will get you a walk-on these days,” Prime Time exclaimed.

If a walk-on can run a program $50K, one can well imagine the insane amounts teams have to fork out to land top-tier players.
College athletes are no longer only motivated by playing for certain schools or coaches, money runs the game now. It’s why there are many, including Sanders, who believe Nick Saban decided to retire this year because of NIL.
