Deion Sanders can go more than a few days without seeing his name being mentioned for a possible head coaching position of another squad.
The Jackson State Tigers won 41-14 over Texas Southern Saturday to improve their record to 9-0. Sanders, whose name is a popular one in coaching-search season, addressed his team and made it very clear he wasn’t going anywhere and kept his team up to date on his schedule for the upcoming week.
“Now, I don’t want you to hear bullshit, Sanders said in the postgame locker room. “I gotta go to Dallas and shoot a commercial on Monday. And coach Zimmer, his cousin died. Coach (Mike Zimmer) is my boy, and that’s his son (who passed away). So I have to go to that funeral Tuesday. I hate missing anything with y’all. So I won’t be at practice Tuesday. But I hate rumors. There’s going to be lies that I’m going somewhere to do some bullshit. I’m keeping it 100 with y’all. That’s not happening. So that’s what it is. I’m going to see you again Tuesday evening or Wednesday.”
His statement to his players comes a week after Sanders appeared on College GameDay, saying he wasn’t going anywhere in front of a large group of Jackson State fans, who were in attendance for the pregame show on campus.
It’s impossible to know if Sanders will actually Leave Jackson State once the season is over, but the rumors are never going to stop as long as he continues to have success there.
As far as the team, quarterback Shedeur Sanders threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns, while Sy’veon Wilkerson rushed for 214 yards and two additional scores in their dominant victory over Texas Southern.
