After a successful three-year tenure at Jackson State, Deion Sanders signed a lucrative contract to take over as the new head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes.
The former star NFL cornerback has already recruited several notable prospects over to the Buffaloes’ program, including wide receiver Winston Watkins and cornerback Travis Hunter. Deion’s sons, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and safety Shilo Sanders, have also recruited to Colorado.
Now, it appears as though Sanders is gaining some momentum towards recruiting another elite cornerback prospect in Cormani McClain. He previously committed to the Miami Hurricanes’ program, but it appears as though he could end up flipping his commitment.
Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports explained on his “Wiltfong Whiparound” show that McClain going to Colorado ultimately wouldn’t be surprising:
“I think I just want to say that this is not a shocker. When Deion Sanders and Jackson State flipped Travis Hunter, that was one of the biggest shockers in recruiting history. Not that Travis Hunter opted to play for Jackson State, which was a program on the rise for arguably the greatest cornerback of all time in Deion Sanders. That’s not shocking that he chose to do that. Just that no one saw it coming is what made it a shocker. Cormani McClain and Colorado, this is something that’s been developing and brewing for a month now.”

Sanders, a two-time Super Bowl Champion and eight-time Pro Bowler, compiled a 27-6 record over his three seasons with Jackson State. He led the school to back-to-back SWAC Championships in 2021 and 2022, though they fell in the subsequent Celebration Bowl both times.
The Buffaloes finished with a disappointing 1-11 record in 2021, losing each of their final six contests to close out the season.
