Jay Norvell and Deion Sanders got into a war of words around September’s Colorado-Colorado State game. Many thought it would be a blowout but Colorado State looked like a team that was going to pull off the upset.
The tensions began when Norvell said on his radio show that he took off his sunglasses and hat when he talked to players and the media.
Deion fired back and used those remarks to motivate his team, saying Norvell made the game “personal.”
Sanders apparently took Norvell’s remarks more personally as he thought it was a shot to his family.
A clip from Amazon’s Coach Prime docuseries shows what he and Norvell said to each other during the postgame handshake following Colorado’s 43–35 comeback victory.
“Congratulations,” Norvell said to Sanders as the two coaches shook hands. “And I was never talking about your family.”
“Oh, you was talking about my mama, dawg,” Sanders responded before Norvell could be seen shaking his head.
“Yes, you were, You were. You were,” Sanders said.
