Deion Sanders has been everything and more to Jackson State University. This past weekend, Sanders and Jackson State captured the SWAC Championship with a 27-10 win over Prairie View A&M.
Over 50,000 fans filed into Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium to watch JSU bring home its first SWAC title since 2007.
Sanders is not only good for the program, but he is exceptional for business and the city as a whole.
Jackson officials told WAPT that it credits Sanders and JSU with creating approximately a $30 million impact on the city.
“I don’t think we’ve seen anything like that! It’s record-breaking,” said Yolanda Clay-Moore with Visit Jackson.
Clay-Moore said from retail to restaurants, every business in the city felt the Coach Prime effect.
With the pandemic far from over she said this economic boom came at the right time.
“It’s vital. A lot of businesses have closed even because of the pandemic, so for this to be happening at this time it’s an important time in our city,” said Clay-Moore.

Prior to the championship game, Deion Sanders acknowledged the impact of his program on the city.
“Yeah, I think we outdrew Ole Miss and Mississippi State last game (vs. Alcorn State),” he said. “Somebody say something. Clap for us or something like that. Clap for us. Clap for with a check. I don’t want you to clap with your hands. Clap with a check so we can keep this thing going.”
On December 18th, the 11-1 Tigers will meet South Carolina State in the sixth edition of the Celebration Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
