New Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is keen on changing the culture within the program on the back of his arrival.
Sanders, who has attracted a lot of flak for his departure from Jackson State, will hope to turn things around in Colorado and has already made a huge impact since taking over the reins. But he isn’t looking to give anything away for free.
Coach Prime recently made headlines when he kicked a player out of the gym for contravention of the team’s dress code (wearing the wrong color socks). Now, he’s back in the news for letting his team know they will be wearing blank jerseys until they earn their numbers.
“The coaches are going to bring you in every week, they don’t have to give out a number,” he said during the first team practice. “Every week it’s going to be judged, if you’re kicking butt then yeah, he gets his number…everything you do around here will be earned, we ain’t giving you nothing.”

The former NFL cornerback says the decision stems from him coming up in an era during which things were earned.
“I’m old school, I come from the place you gotta earn it, when my school closed and I wanted to go shopping, I had to get a job and work and earn that,” he offered. “That’s why I appreciate those kind of things.”
Sanders is expected to do big things in Colorado, especially having secured some of the best talent in the nation. Many of his players – including his son Shedeur – followed him from JSU, while he’s recruited some top players for the Buffaloes since taking the job as head coach.
