Deion Sanders has become used to recruiting some of the best players in college football as he talks a good game and has shown he could back it up. But the University of Colorado head coach has seen two of his best pass catchers put their names into the transfer portal for whatever reason this offseason, and it’s very baffling.
In just two days, the Buffaloes have lost two of their best wide receivers from last season. Montana Lemonious-Craig announced his decision to enter the portal on Sunday, only a day removed from his monster performance in Colorado’s spring game.
The wideout made three receptions to the tune of 154 yards in front of a crowd of 45,000. He was one of the few players from the circa Sanders regime thought to be set to remain with the program. But he’s clearly looking to play elsewhere based on his weekend announcement.
Another WR is now showing a desire to leave Colorado, with Jordyn Tyson taking to Twitter on Monday to reveal he’s entered his name too. Tyson was the Buffaloes leader in receiving yards and touchdowns last season but is unlikely to lead the team in any department in 2023.
“This was not an easy decision, but one that I have thought long and hard about,” he wrote. “I believe that this is the best choice for me at this time in my career and I am excited to see what the future holds.
“Thank you again for everything. I will always be proud to have been a Buffalo.”

Tyson made 22 catches for 470 receiving yards and five TDs last season.
Meanwhile, Deion has developed a reputation as a strict coach who will kick you out of the gym if you wear the wrong color socks. Might the coach’s work ethic have been a bit too much for Montana and Jordyn?
