Colorado Buffaloes’ head coach Deion Sanders didn’t hold back in expressing his honest feelings regarding the late start times for Pac-12 games.
The Buffaloes (4-2) will try to move to three games above .500 when they host the Stanford Cardinal at 10 p.m. EST (8 p.m. local time). Indeed, it’s an awfully late start for a team that opened its season with several 12/12:30 p.m. EST starts.
Speaking on his “Buffs PrimeTime” weekly radio program (h/t Pat Graham of the Associated Press), the Pro Football Hall of Famer went off on the college football schedule makers, calling the 8 p.m. start times “the dumbest” and “stupidest thing ever” created:
“Who makes these 8 o’clock games? Dumbest thing ever. Stupidest thing ever invented in life. Who wants to stay up until 8 o’clock for a darn game? What about the East Coast — do they even care about ratings? Is anyone watching it? What are we supposed to do with the kids all day until 8 o’clock? What are we supposed to do in the hotel?..Thank God we’re not going to be in this conference.”
Sanders’ last comment there about “not” remaining in the Pac-12 is obviously a reference to the school’s looming move to the Big-12 for the 2024-25 season.
After a successful three-year stint with the Jackson State Tigers, where he compiled a 27-6 record, Sanders agreed to a lucrative deal to take over Colorado’s football program. The Buffaloes won just a single game in 2022, but they’ve already quadrupled that win total under Coach Prime.

Colorado opened its season with wins over the TCU Horned Frogs, longtime rival Nebraska Cornhuskers and Colorado State Rams. They dropped two in a row to a pair of ranked teams in the Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans, before bouncing back with a close win in Arizona State last week.
