Following an up-and-down first year as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders still plans to stay in Boulder for a long time.
At least, that’s according to the Pro Football Hall of Famer himself.
During an interview with NBC News’ Savannah Spears, Sanders was asked about his long-term outlook with the Buffaloes football program. There, “Prime Time” made it clear that he isn’t looking at other opportunities.
“I love Boulder, Colorado, and Buffalo. I’m not chasing finances. I’m not chasing the bag. I’m not chasing notoriety…I love what I do, and I do what I love….I don’t plan on being anywhere else in my coaching career. It is my desire to one day retire…ride off on a white horse with a black hat in the sunset in Boulder, Colorado. Winning a championship…championships…that’s what I wanna do.”
After a successful three-year stint at Jackson State, the two-time Super Bowl champion and NFL icon agreed to a lucrative deal to become the new head coach of the Buffaloes. Prime Time inherited a one-win team but led Colorado to a perfect 3-0 start, making the Buffs the top story in the first month of the NCAA football season.
The Buffaloes were unable to sustain their early-season momentum, however. The group lost seven of its final eight games to finish 4-8 and well out of bowl eligibility.
