With Shedeur Sanders headed to the NFL, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are moving quickly to find his successor behind center.
Shedeur announced last month that he plans to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. He’s widely regarded as the best quarterback prospect in the class and projected to be a top-three pick, with two-way star and teammate Travis Hunter also a strong possibility to go first overall. As such, Deion Sanders and the Buffs will need to replace their two best players.
According to a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and 247Sports, the Buffaloes are set to host former Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter next week. Salter entered the transfer portal and also has a meeting lined up with Syracuse.
Salter has spent the last four seasons at Liberty, posting his best season in 2023. That year, he threw for 2,876 yards, 32 touchdowns and only six interceptions to go along with 1,089 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.

Deion Sanders has made Colorado a hot spot for players who entered the transfer portal. He inherited a one-win team in 2023 and quadrupled their win total to four, though they dropped eight of their last nine games following a 3-0 start.

Under Deion Sanders’ leadership, the Buffs re-emerged as a powerhouse in 2024 with a 9-3 record culminating with a No. 23 ranking. The Buffs wrap up their season against BYU in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28.
Landing Kaidon Salter Would Be A Big Win For Deion Sanders
Ideally, the Buffaloes’ replacement for Shedeur Sanders would be a QB with valuable playing experience in the college ranks. Not only does Salter have the experience, but he’s a dazzling dual-threat talent who would keep this offense intact without Shedeur and Hunter.
