If Deion Sanders decides to leave the Colorado Buffaloes within the next three years, the Pro Football Hall of Famer will have to pay several millions of dollars back to the school.
After three years at Jackson State, “Prime Time” agreed to a five-year deal to coach the Buffaloes’ football team worth $29.5 million.
A previous X (previously known as “Twitter”) thread from Brian Howell of BuffZone and the Daily Camera newspaper in Boulder, Colorado recently resurfaced. The threat provides some interesting details of Sanders’ contract with the Buffaloes.
Per Howell, Sanders would have to pay Colorado $15 million if he decided to leave the school after the first year of his deal. That numbers falls to $10 million after year two, $8 million in year three and $5 million if he leaves in the fourth or fifth year.

The two-time Super Bowl Champion coached Colorado to a stunning 45-42 upset over the TCU Horned Frogs last Saturday. The Buffaloes opened that game as a massive 21-point underdog, but a near-flawless performance by the offense led Colorado to one of the biggest regular season win in the program’s history.
If Sanders’ success at Jackson State carries over to Colorado, he’ll unquestionably be on the radar of other major college football coaching programs across the country. So the Buffaloes’ athletics department better be ready to potentially offer him a raise in the not-so-distant future.
